After nearly six months since the mother of NBC anchor went missing from her home, investigators have released the full contents of a ransom letter and subsequent communications. Investigators believe that these documents may contain valuable clues to help law enforcement solve the case.
According to the Pima County Sheriff’s Office, Nancy Guthrie passed away shortly after being kidnapped, as revealed in the ransom letter disclosed on Friday, July 31st.
The 84-year-old woman is the mother of Savannah Guthrie, co-host of NBC’s “Today Show”. She went missing from her residence in the Catalina Foothills community of Tucson, Arizona on January 31st.
The initial ransom letter was sent the day after her disappearance, stating that she was in their custody, “safe but scared”, and demanding a ransom of $4 million in Bitcoin for her release.
A second letter, dated February 6th, was addressed to the “Guthrie family”, announcing Nancy’s passing and stating that she had been “laid to rest”.
The Sheriff’s Office noted that the ransom letters exhibit “distinctive language, syntax, and wording patterns”. These unique writing styles could potentially be recognized by someone familiar with the perpetrator, offering new leads for the authorities.
