New district chief Qiaoduli takes office, Coleman transferred to headquarters

New York City’s Police Department’s 109th Precinct held a ceremony on March 23 for the changing of the guard where the current precinct commander, Kevin Coleman, was reassigned to the Police Headquarters. Karam Chowdhury, the former commander of the 104th Precinct, was promoted to take over as the new commander of the 109th Precinct.

During the ceremony, Coleman personally handed over the symbolic CO badge of command to Chowdhury, marking the completion of the “passing of the torch” ritual. The police department expressed gratitude on social media for Coleman’s leadership and contributions to the 109th Precinct and welcomed Chowdhury in his new role.

It is worth mentioning that Chowdhury previously took over from Coleman as the commander of the 104th Precinct and now he is stepping up to lead the 109th Precinct, once again following in Coleman’s footsteps.

Chowdhury joined the New York City Police Department in 2005, bringing with him 20 years of experience in law enforcement. He has served in various capacities at Manhattan’s 9th Precinct, Queens’ Astoria 114th Precinct, and the Bronx Patrol Borough, accumulating a wealth of experience in both patrol duties and command roles. Since 2021, he has been working in the Candidate Assessment Division (CAD) within the Patrol Borough, overseeing executive assessments and selection processes, equipped with a background in personnel management and leadership training.

Following the transition, the two precinct commanders visited the office of Councilwoman Vickie Paladino in College Point and Whitestone.

The 109th Precinct’s jurisdiction includes neighborhoods such as Flushing, Murray Hill, College Point, Whitestone, and Bay Terrace.
