On March 12, 2025, the 100th anniversary of the passing of the founding father of the Republic of China, Mr. Sun Yat-sen, was commemorated by the Chinese community in New York. A memorial ceremony was held at the Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association, with over a hundred people in attendance, including representatives from various overseas Chinese organizations and the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in New York. They gathered to honor Sun Yat-sen’s revolutionary spirit and his Three Principles of the People, expressing their admiration and remembrance.
The commemoration ceremony took place at 2 p.m. at the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall within the Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association. The atmosphere was solemn, with everyone standing in reverence as the national anthems of both China and the United States were played. Subsequently, Director Lee Zhiqiang of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office, Chairman Zhu Chaoran of the Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association, and representatives from various overseas Chinese organizations and community groups paid their respects to a portrait of Sun Yat-sen with three bows each, as a gesture of reverence. Sun Yat-sen, also known as Sun Yixian, was born in Xiangshan, Guangdong (now Zhongshan), on November 12, 1866. He passed away on March 12, 1925, after dedicating his life to overthrowing the Qing dynasty, establishing a democratic republic, leading the Xinhai Revolution, and founding the Republic of China. He visited New York four times and established the New York Xingzhong Association and the New York branch of the United Alliance on Mott Street in Chinatown, spreading the ideals of democratic revolution widely and laying the foundation for the later overthrow of the imperial system.
Following the memorial ceremony, overseas Chinese leaders and community representatives proceeded to Columbus Park for a flower-laying ceremony to pay tribute to Sun Yat-sen once again.
