This year marks the 37th anniversary of the “June 4th” incident. Epoch Times exclusively obtained over 2,000 previously unreleased historical photos of the “June 4th” event, shedding light on those years that the Chinese Communist Party had diligently tried to cover up and erase.
In the spring and summer of 1989, a global-shaking student democracy movement ignited in Tiananmen Square in Beijing, quickly spreading throughout China. Millions of students and citizens took to the streets, peacefully and rationally expressing their opposition to corruption, and advocating for democracy and freedom. However, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) secretly mobilized a large number of regular army troops and launched a comprehensive crackdown on civilians with tanks and machine guns in the early hours of June 4th. According to unofficial estimates, the CCP shot and killed thousands to tens of thousands of people.
An official photographer who was present at the scene back then documented the history in full and the numerous rolls of film he shot remained hidden for 37 years. These precious photos, entrusted to Epoch Times by insiders, fulfill the old man’s wishes. The collection includes color and black-and-white photos, totaling over 2,000. Recently, the CCP authorities have been threatening and harassing individuals they believe are associated with these photos, including Chinese and American citizens.
For 37 years, the CCP has continuously covered up and suppressed the truth of the events, vilifying the peaceful demonstrations of students as “counter-revolutionary riots” and denying for years the fact that the military opened fire on civilians. However, history will not disappear because of censorship.
To fulfill this elderly man’s final wish, Epoch Times is releasing in batches for the first time these photos of the “June 4th” event that have been dormant for 37 years, guiding readers back to that sorrowful historical scene and reminding the world not to forget the CCP’s bloody massacre of its own people. The CCP continues to intensify persecution and intimidation of good-hearted people today, including threatening Epoch Times staff not to publish these photos.
