Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defense announced today (October 31) that a total of 8 Chinese military aircraft were detected operating around the Taiwan Strait from 6 a.m. on the 30th until 6 a.m. today, as Typhoon Kong-rey battered the region.
The Central Weather Bureau of Taiwan issued maritime and land typhoon warnings today, stating that the powerful Typhoon Kong-rey (internationally named KONG-REY) was located at 21.8 degrees north latitude and 122.2 degrees east longitude at 8 a.m., approximately 130 kilometers east of Cape Eluanbi, moving at a speed of 19-28 kilometers per hour in a northwest to north direction.
The Chinese Communist Party continues to threaten Taiwan militarily by sending military aircraft and ships to the region nearly every day. The Ministry of National Defense of the Republic of China released information on the Chinese military’s activities in the sea and airspace around Taiwan from 6 a.m. on the 30th until 6 a.m. today, detecting a total of 8 Chinese military aircraft (including 4 incursions into Taiwan’s southwest airspace) operating near the Taiwan Strait.
The Ministry of National Defense of the Republic of China disclosed a diagram of Chinese military activities in the airspace around Taiwan, revealing that Taiwan’s military detected 4 Chinese main fighter aircraft in the airspace over the Taiwan Strait from 8:06 a.m. to 5:54 p.m. yesterday. Additionally, from 8:29 a.m. to 5:28 p.m. on the 30th, 4 Chinese main and auxiliary fighter aircraft were detected in the southwest airspace of Taiwan. Taiwan’s military closely monitored and responded using reconnaissance aircraft and ground-based missile systems.
The Taiwan Ministry of National Defense published information on Chinese military activities in the sea and airspace around Taiwan on the 30th, revealing that a total of 10 Chinese military aircraft (including 5 crossing the median line of the Strait and entering the southwest airspace) and 7 Chinese ships continued to operate near the Taiwan Strait from 6 a.m. on the 29th until 6 a.m. on the 30th. Taiwan’s military closely monitored and responded using reconnaissance aircraft, ships, and missile systems.
In response to the increasing threat posed by Typhoon Kong-rey to eastern and southern Taiwan, the Army Command Headquarters of the Republic of China announced at 3:10 p.m. on the 30th that it had elevated its disaster response level to level one in coordination with the central and defense department’s disaster response center. Furthermore, the headquarters directed the second, third, and fourth operational zones to deploy disaster response forces and equipment, stationed liaison and reconnaissance officers in local governments, and coordinated regional disaster information and response forces to ensure the safety of life and property.
The Army Command Headquarters of Taiwan emphasized the reinforcement of disaster prevention vigilance in all operational zones, closely monitoring the typhoon’s movements and local disasters, and preparing fully to cooperate with local government disaster response mechanisms. The military will promptly engage in disaster relief missions as required.
The Central Weather Bureau of Taiwan issued a strong wind warning today, with Lan Yu and Green Island experiencing gusts above force 14 due to the impact of the typhoon. Additionally, Taitung area and Penghu are expected to have similar strong gusts above force 14. Areas from New Taipei City to Kaohsiung and Hualien, Yilan, Pingtung coastal areas, Hengchun Peninsula, and Matsu are expected to have strong gusts above force 11, while Keelung, Taipei, Nantou, Chiayi City, and Kinmen will experience strong gusts ranging from force 9 to 10. Residents are advised to take special precautions.
