Hong Kong male actor Jacky Heung, who has been filming in mainland China in recent years, stirred up controversy by slapping Bruce Lee impersonator Fang Xiaolong during a commercial event in Shanghai. Fang Xiaolong reported the incident to the police, hoping for an apology from Jacky Heung.
The son of Hong Kong film tycoon Charles Heung, Jacky Heung has become a hot topic in mainland China recently. His action film “Treasure Land at the Door,” which had a budget of 200 million Chinese yuan, only made 1.46 million yuan at the box office, leading to discussions among netizens. In particular, his gestures and actions, such as putting his fingers on his nose, have become hot topics on the internet.
On October 26th, Jacky Heung performed on stage with internet celebrity “Fang Xiaolong,” known for impersonating Bruce Lee, at an event in Shanghai Happy Valley. In the final moments of filming, Jacky Heung put his arm around Fang’s neck, and Fang, in turn, hugged Jacky Heung’s shoulder and gestured a thumbs up. Unexpectedly, Jacky Heung suddenly slapped Fang Xiaolong hard and then walked away as if nothing had happened, shocking and surprising everyone present.
Following the incident, Fang Xiaolong’s team released a statement saying, “The final action was definitely not part of the performance,” accusing Jacky Heung of seeming too excited, not following the routine, and not sticking to the planned script. They also stated that they had contacted the police: “I just want an explanation and everyone to reason about this.”
In another video, a friend of Fang Xiaolong revealed that the script for the event originally involved mutual imitation: Jacky Heung would imitate Bruce Lee’s moves, and Fang Xiaolong would imitate Jacky Heung’s signature gesture (putting fingers on the nose). There was no physical conflict between the two parties.
Under public scrutiny, on October 28th, Jacky Heung posted a lengthy statement on Weibo to address the situation with three points: “First, I didn’t attend this event for fun; it was the event organizers who invited me for cooperation, and many people wanted to imitate me or Bruce Lee with me.” He explained that his actions were not malicious but aimed to enhance the event’s atmosphere, as many people wanted to imitate him due to a recent trend. He emphasized that the specific action was a signature move of Bruce Lee and hoped people would not overinterpret it.
According to the Jiangnan City News, despite Jacky Heung’s explanation, many netizens still believe that his behavior was aggressive and improper. Some commenters stated that regardless of the reasons, one should not resort to violence in public places. Such behavior not only harms others but also tarnishes one’s own image. Many expressed their support for the Bruce Lee impersonator and demanded an apology from Jacky Heung.
