Guilin Convenience Center Uncovered for Being Unstaffed During Working Hours

Recently, a netizen posted a video claiming that at a convenience service center in a town in Guilin, Guangxi, no one was present at 8 o’clock despite the official opening time.

According to reports from Daxiang News, on the 22nd, the netizen visited the employment service station in Lianghe Town, Quanzhou County, where it was stated that they open at 8 o’clock, but by 9:30, there was still no one there. In the video, two signs were hung in front of the office lobby, one for the employment service station of Lianghe Town and the other for the convenience service center. A notice posted on the door indicated that the working hours on weekdays were from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

In response to this, a staff member from the Lianghe Town government stated that they usually hold a regular meeting on Monday mornings and resume normal office hours around 10 o’clock.

In recent years, the phenomenon of Chinese civil servants “lying flat” has been repeatedly observed. In order to combat inefficient government officials, many local governments in China have introduced humiliating “snail awards” to compel civil servants to stop slacking off. However, the results have shown that the more officials are pushed to work, the more they resist. Netizens have mocked the situation, saying, “Impressive, they have a two-hour meeting every Monday,” “This time they’re not late,” or “They’re out for investigations,” “There are always excuses,” “We’re used to it already,” “In the end, it’s either in a meeting or in training.”

Some have commented, “It’s normal, it’s hard to find anyone there,” “This happens everywhere in the country, it’s just the tip of the iceberg, we’re not surprised since the 15th salary has just been released,” “The explanation from the town government officials is so arrogant, they believe they can set their own working hours. No wonder some government departments have low efficiency, I just want to know how they will adjust this situation.”

On the 23rd, Extreme Vision News called the Office of the Quanzhou County government using the supervision phone number provided publicly and a staff member stated that relevant departments in the county have launched an investigation.

The spokesperson mentioned that according to government regulations, employees must be present and stationed during working hours, especially at service windows, and must not leave their posts.
