Yeh Tong, the oldest champion of “Sisters Who Make Waves,” defies the graying of hair.

Hong Kong artist Yip Tung, who has been recognized by her distinctive white hair, recently claimed the championship in the mainland China talent show “Riding the Wind 2025” (Sisters Who Make Waves 6) in a dominant manner. At 62 years old, she became the “oldest overall champion” since the show started in 2020.

Yip Tung made a recent appearance on the mainland Chinese variety show “Riding the Wind 2025.” Among the members of the show, she, being the oldest, not only displayed self-discipline and seriousness, but also maintained a good mental and physical state with her silver short hair, which netizens praised for its youthful vibe.

In an early episode of the show, a seemingly simple team selection process sparked a controversy: when 32-year-old mainland Chinese actress Fang Qi questioned Yip Tung’s vitality, the 62-year-old artist confidently replied, “Your doubts about my energy make me think that you have a real problem.” The incident quickly became a hot topic on Weibo.

Despite having a head full of white hair in recent years, some have criticized Yip Tung for appearing aged. However, she has chosen not to dye her hair back to black. When asked about the topic of age, she openly stated that she no longer feels the need to pretend to be young and has learned to accept herself as she is now. She explained, “In fact, I don’t feel old, but when I acknowledge that I am aging, I accept the color my hair naturally turns, I no longer dye it, it’s a form of acceptance.” In her eyes, accepting her white hair gracefully is a process of self-acceptance, emphasizing that she should not be defined by her appearance.

Yip Tung, who has won numerous awards, won the Best Actress award at the 3rd Hong Kong Film Awards in 1983 for her role in the comedy film “Wrong Couples.” In 1989, she won the Best Supporting Actress award at the 9th Hong Kong Film Awards for the film “Rouge.” Known for her performance as a male character, she played “Xu Xian” opposite Angie Chiu in “The New Legend of Madame White Snake” and received acclaim for her portrayal of the lead role in the stage play “King Lear” with a white hair style.

After the announcement of her victory as the champion of “Sisters Who Make Waves 6,” Yip Tung was congratulated by a group of younger colleagues, creating an emotional scene. Afterwards, she posted a message saying, “Looking back on my decades-long career in the entertainment industry, spanning over 40 years, I still hold onto the courage to explore. In the future, I will continue to shine on the screen and the stage of life with this courage and encouragement, breaking through waves and wind.”
