In the evening of September 3rd, the Chaoyang District Sub-bureau of Changchun Public Security Bureau issued a notification stating that at 1:20 pm on September 2nd, the Red Flag Street Police Station of the Chaoyang District Public Security Bureau of Changchun received a report that a man was causing trouble with a knife in the Middle East Red Street property within its jurisdiction. When the police officers arrived at the scene, they found that the suspect, Li Moye (45 years old), was threatening the people with a knife. A scuffle ensued between the police and the suspect, resulting in one police officer being critically injured, his gun being seized, and another police officer being injured.

The notification also mentioned that after additional police reinforcements arrived, the suspect continued to resist, resulting in another police officer being injured, and the suspect was shot dead on the spot. One injured police officer was pronounced dead after unsuccessful medical treatment, while the other two police officers were treated and are not in danger of losing their lives. The investigation into the incident is still ongoing.

According to local netizens in Changchun who provided information to the media, the incident took place in Block 2 of the Middle East Red Street community on the south side of Hongqi Street. The suspect, who is a male homeowner aged around 45-50, physically strong, got into a dispute with the property management of the Middle East Red Street. The homeowner appeared decent and mentally stable, but he entered the property office with a knife. The property management then called the police. When the police arrived, there was a physical confrontation between the homeowner and the police. The homeowner injured one police officer, took the officer’s gun, and fired three shots directly at two police officers, resulting in one officer’s death and one being injured.

Following the incident, a large number of armed police and special forces vehicles rushed to the scene, and snipers were deployed. The suspect held a hostage in the underground parking lot of Hongqi Street, engaging in a standoff with the police for 2 hours.

From leaked videos of the scene, several armed police officers stood at the gate, while inside, the police confronted the suspect. Two gunshots were heard consecutively, followed shortly by a third gunshot. Subsequently, four to five special forces officers quickly carried the suspect toward a police car and took him away.

Local residents claimed that the suspect was a resident facing relocation issues, with delayed property ownership documentation, leading to frustration and a violent confrontation with the property management.

Many witnesses in the commentary section mentioned that videos they uploaded during the day of September 2nd were promptly removed. Some received calls from the police requesting the deletion of their videos, and some disclosed that the police even went door-to-door asking residents to delete recorded videos. Despite strict internet censorship by the authorities, some videos that slipped through the cracks were circulating online that night or in the early hours of the morning.

In online discussions, many netizens expressed that the current society has a high level of hostility, making such violent incidents more likely to occur, and emphasized the importance of maintaining peace in interactions. Some commented that extreme actions are generally a result of feeling cornered.

There were also voices of dissatisfaction directed towards the police, criticizing the deployment of a large number of personnel for apprehending a single individual as a waste of resources. Some questioned the extensive use of resources, including local police stations, regular officers, and special forces, in such an operation, suggesting that similar efforts could be directed towards investigating missing persons cases instead.
