Taylor Swift endorses Biden, Trump responds

Former US President Trump played down pop star Taylor Swift’s endorsement of Vice President Harris on Wednesday (September 11), stating he prefers the position of Taylor Swift’s best friend.

In an interview with Fox News on Wednesday morning, Trump said, “I’m not a fan of Taylor Swift.”

“Taylor Swift always seems to support Democrats, she may pay a price for that in the market,” Trump added.

Publicly available information shows that Taylor Swift supported President Biden and Vice President Harris in 2020. In 2018, she supported Democratic Senate candidate Phil Bredesen and Democratic Congressman Jim Cooper.

Trump then said, “I like Brittany Mahomes, I think she’s great.”

Brittany is the wife of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and also a close friend of Taylor Swift.

In August, Brittany liked a post on Instagram published by Trump urging border closures and not funding schools promoting critical race theory.

Taylor Swift’s friendship with Brittany caused controversy when Taylor, who had not endorsed any candidate at the time, made her position known.

In August, Trump retweeted a series of AI-generated photos featuring women wearing T-shirts that read “Swifties For Trump.” In June, he expressed surprise during a meeting with Republican lawmakers in Congress that Taylor Swift had not endorsed him, considering he had signed a law supporting musician copyrights.

On Tuesday, Trump participated in a presidential debate with Harris in Pennsylvania. Shortly after the debate, Taylor Swift announced her endorsement of Harris on Instagram.

She shared a photo of herself with her pet cat and included four paragraphs of text. She mentioned that after seeing AI-generated images falsely claiming her support for Trump, she realized the need to clearly express her election preference. The pop star also called herself a “childless cat lady” at the end of the post, mocking Vice Presidential candidate JD Vance’s previous remarks.

Taylor Swift encouraged her fans to research before the elections and cast their votes. She has 283 million followers on Instagram.

“Like many of you, I watched the debate tonight. If you haven’t already, now is a good time to research the current issues and where these candidates stand on the topics that matter most to you,” Taylor Swift wrote. “As a voter, I make sure to watch and read about all the policies and plans they propose for this country.”
