According to media reports, the Department of Homeland Security in the United States is reportedly considering launching a reality show where immigrants compete to win American citizenship through a competition. The agency has received a proposal for this television program.
Reported by The Wall Street Journal on May 16, producer Rob Worsoff confirmed that he has discussed the creative ideas for this reality show with members of the Department of Homeland Security. Officials from the Trump administration have given a “positive” feedback on the proposal.
Furthermore, Worsoff has reached out to several television networks for “preliminary discussions” about the program to gauge their interest in taking on the show if the Department of Homeland Security agrees to collaborate.
Department of Homeland Security spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin told The Wall Street Journal that the program is only in the “very early stages of the review process” and there are no related productions at the moment.
She added, “Each proposal undergoes thorough review before being rejected or approved.”
Worsoff, a producer who immigrated from Canada to the United States, may be familiar to fans of some reality shows. He has been involved in the production of shows like “Duck Dynasty” and “Million Dollar Matchmaker.”
Regarding the concept of the immigration reality show, Worsoff revealed, “It won’t be like the ‘Hunger Games’ with immigrants competing. It also won’t be a program like, ‘Hey, if you lose, we’ll ship you out of the country.'”
According to the Department of Homeland Security, the agency receives hundreds of potential television show proposals each year, ranging from border security action documentaries to investigations involving white-collar individuals.
