Recently, in Inner Mongolia, a 24-year-old man named Zhang felt overwhelmed by life and decided he wanted to spend a couple of days in detention, so he voluntarily reported himself for driving without a license. As a result, he was administratively detained for 15 days and fined 2000 yuan (RMB), sparking discussions online about the pressures faced by young people.
According to reports from “Poster News” and “Elephant News” on December 29th, the Red Mountain Sub-bureau Traffic Brigade in Chifeng, Inner Mongolia received a call from 24-year-old Zhang reporting himself for driving without a license. Fourteen minutes later, the police stopped Zhang driving a sedan with the license plate number Mongolian D2**ZV at the intersection of Sandaodong Street and Weixin Road in the Red Mountain District. When questioned by the police after rolling down his window, Zhang said, “The pressure is too much, I just want to go in and stay for a few days.”
Upon investigation, it was confirmed that Zhang was indeed driving without a license and the vehicle he was driving was borrowed from a friend. He was fined 2000 yuan and administratively detained for 15 days.
A circulating video showed the man telling the police, “It’s too tiring outside, I want to stay in for two days, the life pressure is too much.”
Subsequently, the topic labeled “Man Reports Himself Saying He’s Too Tired to be Outside, Wants to Stay in for Two Days” sparked heated discussions online.
Netizens commented, “A 24-year-old man reports himself for driving without a license to seek detention, how much helplessness is hidden behind the words ‘too tired’?”
“Still young, no pressure, no burdens. If you have elderly parents and young children, you wouldn’t dare to want to go in.”
“2000 yuan can cover half a month’s stay in a nursing home.”
“The accommodation fee is 2000 yuan.”
“2000 yuan is less than staying in a hotel.”
“Didn’t expect there are people who desire to go to jail? Can’t a hotel charge a fee and pretend to lock people up?”
“When a person loses something, they realize its value. It’s not as good in there as you imagine, right? Experience it for half a month, when you come out, you’ll feel that freedom and ease in detention or prison is an absolute luxury.”
The original video blogger “Xin Zhi Feng Ren” commented, “What is truly unsettling about this incident is not about being ‘detained for driving without a license’, but it’s the fact that some people are starting to see violating the law as a form of ‘forced pause button’. When a young person feels that only by entering detention can they temporarily escape work, social, and life pressures, it already indicates that the tolerance of the real world towards them is very low.
“Before, people escaped pressure by taking leave, traveling, resigning, or at least looking for an outlet within the framework of ‘legal living’; whereas now, some people choose directly to exchange illegal behavior for being ‘systematically entruste…
