Coal unearthed accidentally during road construction in Guizhou, villagers gather to pick up.

Recently, in the process of road construction in Dafang County, Guizhou province, a coal seam was accidentally excavated at the construction site. The news spread quickly, and nearby villagers rushed to the site to collect coal, leading to a gathering of people in a short period of time.

On December 23rd, a netizen posted a video on the Douyin platform claiming that a road construction site in Dafang County had “dug up a coal mine,” and in the video, they shouted, “Come and pick up free coal.” The video showed multiple villagers carrying baskets on their backs and tools in their hands, picking up pieces of coal at the construction site.

According to eyewitnesses, during the excavation of the foundation at the construction site, a backhoe unearthed black coal blocks, with some coal scattered outside the construction area. Due to the high demand for coal for heating and daily use in surrounding villages during the winter, some villagers rushed to collect the coal upon hearing the news, causing a certain impact on the normal construction progress.

According to a report by China.com, after the incident, the local management department organized staff to maintain order at the site and made it clear that unauthorized coal collection constitutes illegal private mining behavior.

Officials from the Dongguan Township Government in Dafang County stated that during the construction process, approximately 20 truckloads of coal were excavated, which will be uniformly transported and disposed of by the government. Relevant personnel mentioned that Dafang County is rich in coal resources, with several coal mining areas distributed within its jurisdiction. The scale of the coal excavated this time is not large, estimated to be a few hundred cubic meters.

As of December 23rd, the coal from the site had been transported to a designated resettlement location within the county, and the construction area had returned to normal operations.
