During the National Day holiday in Guangdong Huizhou, Ms. Li received a call from the property management of her residence on October 5, informing her that there was a serious water leak in her home, causing even the elevator to be affected. Upon inspection by her friends, it was discovered that the issue stemmed from an explosion of an intelligent toilet, which led to the significant water leakage. Ms. Li mentioned that the involved intelligent toilet was a counterfeit product purchased for 1090 yuan on Pinduoduo.
After receiving the call from the property management, Ms. Li’s friend rushed to her home to understand the situation. They found that the intelligent toilet in her bathroom had exploded and caught fire, resulting in severe smoke damage inside the house. The explosion damaged the water pipes in the bathroom, causing leakage to her neighbor’s home and leading to water invading the elevator inside the building.
Upon returning home, Ms. Li was shocked to see the devastation in her bathroom, with blackened walls, accumulated water, and all clothing needing to be discarded. She expressed her gratitude, saying, “Fortunately, I was not at home, or I would have been blown up!”

Following the incident, Ms. Li requested Pinduoduo to provide manufacturer information to hold them accountable, but her request was denied. She expressed concerns about similar accidents occurring again and hoped that the merchants would recall the same model of products from the market.
Mainland Chinese lawyer Li Wenxiao told “Guangdong Livelihood” that if the platform does not actively cooperate in providing manufacturer information, the victim can directly sue the platform to hold them primarily responsible and claim compensation.
In September of last year, a netizen named “Justice Cat” filed a complaint on the Black Cat Complaints Platform, stating that they purchased two intelligent toilets from the “Home of Premium Bathroom Building Materials 2” store on Pinduoduo in December 2023. The product details page advertised the products as genuine JOMOO intelligent toilets with a warranty valid until December 2024. However, one of the toilets malfunctioned and would not power on in September 2024. When contacting JOMOO Kitchen and Bathroom Co., Ltd. for after-sales maintenance, the repairman found both toilets to be counterfeit and unrepairable, instructing the consumer to contact the seller for resolution. Unfortunately, upon checking the Pinduoduo platform and finding the order page, it was discovered that the seller’s page was no longer active, indicating that they had absconded, making it impossible to contact them. When contacting Pinduoduo’s official customer service, the response received was to wait for contact with the merchant.
