The English-French Leaders’ Summit on 10th issued a joint declaration reaffirming their commitment to the peaceful stability of the Taiwan Strait. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China stated that the reiteration by the British and French leaders fully demonstrates that safeguarding peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait is now an international consensus.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron held the 37th English-French Leaders’ Summit in London on the 10th. After the summit, they released a declaration emphasizing the inseparable link between security in the Indo-Pacific region and Europe. The two countries pledged to enhance coordination and take action to jointly strive for freedom, openness, and autonomy in the Indo-Pacific region.
The joint declaration of the English-French leaders also reiterated their commitment to the peaceful stability of the Korean Peninsula, South China Sea, East China Sea, and the Taiwan Strait, calling for peaceful resolution of cross-strait issues. Taiwan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Joseph Wu, expressed high welcome and gratitude towards this statement.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China mentioned that following the G7 Summit in June this year, the leaders of the UK and France once again jointly expressed their commitment to peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait. This further underscores that the maintenance of peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait has become an international consensus.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China stated that Taiwan, as a responsible democratic member of the international community, will continue to collaborate with global democratic partners to contribute to the freedom, openness, and prosperity of the Indo-Pacific region.
