Celebrating Asian Heritage Month with Alzheimer’s Care and Support Services

May is Asian Pacific American Heritage Month in the United States, a time to celebrate the diverse cultures and contributions of Asian Pacific Americans, as well as to foster mutual understanding among different ethnic groups. An event celebrating Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, organized by the Alzheimer’s Care Service, Queens Library, and the Asian American Doctors Association, was held on May 13 at the Flushing Library.

During the event, neurologist Dr. Wu Anli spoke about brain health, and nine long-time volunteers who have dedicated themselves to serving the dementia community were honored. The volunteer performers from the “Happy Phoenix Dance Troupe” showcased solo singing and traditional Chinese dance.

Shi Weijing, the “Vice President of Diversity” at Alzheimer’s Care Service, emphasized the importance of brain health for everyone. She also highlighted the profound impact of American volunteer culture and values on the Chinese community, bringing invaluable benefits to families affected by dementia. The contributions of dementia service volunteers, who provide care and guidance to dementia patients, were recognized and commended during Asian Pacific American Heritage Month.

The event received support and sponsorship from United Healthcare and Fucang Medical. The participation of these organizations underscored the significance of raising awareness about brain health and honoring the dedication of volunteers in serving the dementia community during this special month celebrating Asian Pacific American heritage.
