Over the weekend, a high-ranking official of the government in Xinjiang, Zhu Changjie, who retired 8 years ago, has been taken down in the Chinese Communist Party’s “anti-corruption” campaign. Zhu Changjie had long served as the Director of the Xinjiang Public Security Department.
On June 20th, the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Supervisory Commission of the Chinese Communist Party announced that Zhu Changjie, former member of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region government’s party committee and vice-chairman, is suspected of serious violations of discipline and law, and is currently undergoing disciplinary review and supervision investigation by the central authorities.
Public records show that Zhu Changjie was born in June 1957 in Dongming, Shandong province. He started working in October 1976, graduated from the agronomy department of Tarim University of Farming and Reclamation, with a university education background.
Zhu Changjie had been working in Xinjiang for many years. In the early years, he worked in the Bayingolin Mongol Autonomous Prefecture, serving as the Deputy Secretary and Secretary of the Yanqi Hui Autonomous County, a standing committee member of the Bayingolin Mongol Autonomous Prefecture Party Committee, Deputy Governor, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee. Later, he was transferred to Aksu as the Deputy Secretary of the Prefectural Party Committee, the Secretary of the Party Committee, and the First Secretary and First Political Commissar of the Agricultural Construction Corps in Xinjiang.
In 2009, Zhu Changjie was appointed as the Secretary of the Party Committee and Director of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region Public Security Department. In March of the following year, he also concurrently served as the First Secretary and First Political Commissar of the Xinjiang Corps of the Armed Police Force.
In July 2011, Zhu Changjie was promoted to Vice Chairman of the government. At the same time, he also concurrently served as the Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the autonomous region’s Political and Legal Affairs Commission, the Secretary of the Party Committee and Director of the Public Security Department, and the First Secretary and First Political Commissar of the Xinjiang Corps of the Armed Police Force.
In February 2017, Zhu Changjie was relieved of his additional positions such as Secretary of the Party Committee and Director of the Public Security Department, and in 2018 he stepped down from his position as Vice Chairman of the Autonomous Region government.
