On the eve of the 37th anniversary of the June Fourth incident, the “Pillar of National Mourning” giant banner was displayed next to the Flushing Library in New York on May 24.
The event was jointly organized by the China Democracy Party International Alliance, China Democracy and Human Rights Alliance, China New Democracy Party, International Human Rights Watch, End CCP Global Alliance, and other groups. The organizers stated that the purpose of this event is to call on the public to remember history, never forget June Fourth, hold the Chinese Communist Party accountable for the bloody massacre in Tiananmen Square back then, and unite to end the tyranny of the CCP.
The “Pillar of National Mourning” sculpture was created by Danish sculptor Gao Zhihuo to commemorate the victims of the June Fourth crackdown in 1989. The pillar depicts bodies twisted in agony due to the violent suppression by the CCP, intertwined in mutual support symbolizing the blood and indomitable spirits of the deceased students. The prototype of the sculpture was forcibly dismantled by the Hong Kong authorities in 2021. However, pro-democracy groups printed the image of the sculpture on a 9-meter long, 3-meter wide banner, which is often displayed at events commemorating June Fourth.
The area in front of the Flushing Library was bustling with people, and the giant banner stood out prominently in the bustling district, attracting a large number of people from various ethnicities to stop and watch. The organizers also laid out the Chinese Communist flag on the ground for a “flag stepping” activity, which drew many passersby to step on the flag to express strong condemnation of the CCP’s tyranny.
Chairman Jielijian of the China Democracy Party International Alliance pointed out that the faces in the pictures, suffering and dying from machine gun fire and tank crushing, embody the indignation of the June Fourth martyrs who cannot rest in peace. As long as the tyranny of the CCP persists, the tragedy may recur every day. The ultimate goal of remembering June Fourth is to completely end the CCP’s dictatorship.
Participant Wei Libin stated that these days coincide with the Memorial Day holiday in the United States, but in reality, June Fourth is the memorial day for China. The martyrs of June Fourth who sacrificed for democracy and freedom in China deserve eternal remembrance. Yang Maosen, one of the founders of the China New Democracy Party, and member Qian Jiafa pointed out that it has been 37 years since June Fourth, but the CCP’s bloody repression and killing have never stopped. The profound lessons learned from numerous sacrifices reveal that the essence of the CCP is a vampire that sustains its rule through harming and enslaving the people. They emphasized that only by completely overthrowing the CCP can the Chinese people truly have democracy and freedom.
Furthermore, attendees Gu Kai, Yang Lei, Wang Jing, Dong Minglong, Zhao Xiling, Jin Yuehua, Xu Jiang, Zong Haifeng, Li Changlin, and others also participated in the event and delivered speeches one after another, calling on various groups to cooperate closely and unite the anti-CCP forces until the tyranny of the CCP is completely ended.
