Receiving Daily Immigration Help Calls, Chuang Wenyi Offers Free Legal Aid

Brooklyn – As immigration status continues to be a source of anxiety in the community, Council Member Susan Zhuang from Bensonhurst has pledged to support immigrant communities through free legal services, helping residents navigate increasingly complex legal challenges.

Zhuang noted that her District 43 office receives at least two calls per day related to immigration, reflecting the urgent need for legal assistance among community residents. She emphasized that as a representative of the immigrant community, she understands the pressure residents face in terms of legal issues, livelihood, and identity security.

“As an immigrant representing the immigrant community, I see the need for legal services every day,” Zhuang said. “Therefore, I have decided to support organizations that help families address food insecurity and provide free legal assistance. Serving the community means ensuring basic needs are met and protection is provided.”

This fall, Zhuang will collaborate with the New York Legal Assistance Group’s Mobile Justice Center to bring free legal services to the Bensonhurst community. She also expressed gratitude for the assistance of State Assemblyman William Colton, as both parties will work together to ensure residents of District 43 have access to necessary resources and support.

The free Mobile Legal Aid Center will be set up outside 6514 20th Avenue in Brooklyn on the following dates from 10 am to 2 pm: September 8, October 6, November 21, December 8. The services will cover a range of civil legal issues including public benefits and disability benefits, healthcare benefits, immigration, divorce and custody, identity theft, debt management, employment, domestic violence, and advance planning.

All residents are eligible to apply for free services. District 43 voters wishing to make an appointment can call 718-307-7151. For more information, statements, or to arrange interviews, email [email protected] or call 646-276-0178.
