Floods in Kuancheng, Hebei Wash Away Many Cars

In the early morning of July 13th, Kuancheng County in Chengde, Hebei province, was hit by continuous heavy rainfall, causing sudden flooding in the urban area and sweeping away a large number of cars. The floodwaters rose rapidly, almost submerging rooftops.

A viral video showed that in the early morning of July 13th, after enduring persistent heavy rainfall, Kuancheng Manchu Autonomous County in Chengde, Hebei province suffered severe urban flooding. Many cars were washed away, and residents were heard calling for help.

According to LiZhi News, a local hardware store owner, Ms. Qiao, recalled that the heavy rain started on the evening of July 12th and continued until around 1 a.m. on the 13th, with street flooding reaching depths of over 2 meters at one point. Ms. Qiao mentioned that many items in her store were washed away, and the rolling shutters and glass windows were shattered, describing it as the worst flooding she had ever experienced.

It was reported that on the morning of the 13th, as the floodwaters gradually receded, they left behind a layer of mud and silt covering the ground.

China Central Television (CCTV) reported that due to the impact of extreme heavy rainfall, Kuancheng Town, Mengziling Township, Baoluotai Town, and Longxumen Town in Kuancheng Manchu Autonomous County, Chengde, Hebei province, suffered extensive road damage and transportation disruptions in nine villages, affecting over 1,800 villagers’ travel.

On July 12th, the local authorities issued red alerts for heavy rainfall, geological disasters, and orange alerts for flash floods, with the rain persisting until around 11 p.m. on the 12th.
