According to reports from Iranian media on Monday, May 25, important explosion sounds were heard in the coastal areas near Iran’s crucial Bandar Abbas port and the Strait of Hormuz, with the cause of the explosions remaining unclear.
The Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) quoted sources in a brief statement confirming the explosion sounds at the Bandar Abbas port. However, Iranian officials have not yet provided an explanation for the explosions. The IRGC mentioned that updated information will be released in due course.
Reports from Tasnim news agency indicated three separate explosion sounds in Bandar Abbas, while Fars news agency mentioned similar sounds near Sirik and Jask, both located near the Strait of Hormuz.
Earlier, reports stated that Iranian armed forces claimed to have destroyed an enemy unmanned aerial vehicle in the Persian Gulf region. However, Iranian media have not immediately reported on casualties or property damage resulting from the explosions.
Bandar Abbas port, located in southern Iran, serves as a vital naval base for Iran and holds significant strategic importance, being situated along the coast of the Strait of Hormuz.
The occurrence of these explosions comes at a time when Iran and the United States are intensifying negotiations to end conflict between the two nations.
