Renowned mainland Chinese singer Zhang Liangying, known as the “Dolphin Princess” for her high-pitched vocals, recently sparked widespread concern about her health when she posted a photo of her palm on Weibo on August 25. In the caption, she revealed that her hand started bleeding after stretching.
In the post, Zhang first shared a picture showing prominent blood vessels on her forehead, saying: “Occasionally, when I don’t rest well, or for reasons unknown, a couple of blood vessels on my forehead protrude like this… I have gotten used to it from the beginning, as even after a check-up, no problems in this area were found. Perhaps it’s an old issue with my cervical spine, but for now, I can’t do anything about it.”
Aside from the issue with the blood vessels on her forehead, Zhang also disclosed another perplexing result from her medical examination report: “Rheumatoid immune deficiency/ malnutrition.” She expressed confusion, saying: “My diet has always been very normal, even more diverse than those around me, so how was I diagnosed with malnutrition?”
Zhang also shared with her fans the trouble of her palms peeling and bleeding. “In the past ten years, this was just an occasional issue on my left hand,” she said. “But now, the same symptoms have started appearing on my right hand as well. Who would have imagined that simply stretching could make my palm bleed? Yet I often encounter such embarrassment.”
The images of her palm peeling, cracking, and bleeding, which she posted, were quite alarming, leading her fans to worry about her health.
At 40 years old, Zhang Liangying rose to fame by becoming the third-place winner on the Hunan Satellite TV program “Super Girl” in 2005. She sang Mandarin, Cantonese, Spanish, and English songs in singing competitions, with hits like “Painted Heart,” “Unequaled in the World,” and “If This Is Love.” She has received multiple awards for “Best Female Singer,” including eight consecutive wins at the Chinese Song Chart for Best Female Singer and four Global Chinese Music Awards for Best Female Singer. Zhang has even released an English single titled “Dust My Shoulders Off,” garnering acclaim globally and making her one of China’s most valuable female singers in terms of commercial success.
Despite her impressive accomplishments in her singing career, Zhang has faced significant challenges in her personal life. In 2016, she married Feng Ke, her partner of 13 years, against her mother’s strong opposition. Fans of Zhang had expressed dissatisfaction with Feng Ke, as reports emerged showing a decrease in Zhang’s stake in the talent agency “Shao Cheng Era,” which she co-founded with him.
Although Zhang Liangying has reportedly ended her three-year marriage with Feng Ke, she has never confirmed it publicly. She has only hinted at it during intervals at subsequent concerts, choking up and expressing her emotions, stating that despite being dubbed the “Dolphin Princess” for her challenging vocals and multilingual singing, she has never had a princess’s fate.
In this extensive account of her health issues and reflections on her life, Zhang Liangying admits to reassessing her lifestyle. She acknowledges that she has been pushing herself beyond limits and now realizes the need for adjustment. “Burning out requires fuel, and my fuel is life. So, I have started cherishing life, focusing my energy on more worthwhile aspects, something I should be doing at this age.”
Zhang Liangying has revealed that during future tours, she will relax her weight management approach and avoid excessive weight loss. She plans to make lifestyle changes, jokingly referring to herself as a “workaholic” who can only pause by cutting off the source. She emphasizes that this lengthy post is not a plea for sympathy but aims to communicate with her fans, expressing her desire to avoid escalating negative emotions. “I always just want everyone to see happiness.”
