9 Chinese Arrested in Sri Lanka for Involvement in Online Scam

According to reports from Agence France-Presse, on April 16th, the Sri Lankan customs department announced that 9 Chinese nationals were arrested for allegedly smuggling communication devices into the capital city Colombo’s international airport, with these devices suspected to be used for online fraud activities.

Officials from the Colombo Customs Authority stated that the 9 detained Chinese citizens were attempting to smuggle communication devices, reportedly intended for use in online fraud activities.

A spokesperson for the Sri Lankan customs revealed that officers found 383 second-hand mobile phones, 101 tablets, 6 Wi-Fi routers, and GPS trackers on the arriving Chinese citizens. The spokesperson mentioned that the suspects had these devices strapped to their bodies, and the confiscated goods were valued at 24 million rupees, already seized.
