Hotel washbasin falls off in Zhengzhou, female teacher’s toe crushed and fractured

An Anhui female teacher suffered a fractured toe when a stone slab from the sink in her hotel room in Zhengzhou, Henan suddenly detached and fell heavily on her foot. Nearly twenty days after the incident, the compensation issue remained unresolved, forcing her to travel back from Anhui to Zhengzhou once again to seek justice.

Recently, Ms. Wang from Anhui sought help, stating that on February 7th, she stayed at the Moshang Hotel near the intersection of Middle Zhou Avenue and Chenxu Road in Zhengzhou. That morning, while she was brushing her teeth at the sink in the room, a stone slab on the outer side of the sink unexpectedly dislodged and struck her right foot without warning.

“It was extremely painful when it hit me, so I immediately called the front desk,” Ms. Wang said. She was promptly taken to a nearby Henan Provincial Workers Hospital by an ambulance.

The hospital’s diagnosis revealed that the far end of the first and second toes of Ms. Wang’s right foot were fractured. Currently, she wears a thick cast on her foot and relies on crutches for mobility. “The doctor said it would take 6 to 8 weeks to heal. As a teacher, this has greatly impacted my life and work,” she said.

Following the incident, the hotel acknowledged its fault and had multiple negotiations with Ms. Wang regarding compensation, but no agreement was reached.

Based on the actual losses incurred due to her injury, Ms. Wang compiled a list of compensation including loss of wages, nursing fees, etc., totaling over 30,000 yuan. However, the hotel indicated that the specific compensation amount would be determined by the insurance company.

“Since it was almost the Chinese New Year and I was eager to go home, the hotel manager first paid 5,000 yuan for medical expenses, and I took the high-speed train back,” Ms. Wang said. After returning to Anhui, she repeatedly contacted the hotel to follow up on the progress of the compensation, but the issue remained unresolved, forcing her to return to Zhengzhou once more.

According to the report, the hotel manager claimed that the stone slab that hit Ms. Wang’s foot was glued on and promised that as long as Ms. Wang provided the necessary documents, the hotel would go through the compensation process and settle the payment.

Following media reports on the incident titled “Hotel Sink Detaches, Woman’s Toe Fractured,” it trended on the hot search list on March 16th, sparking discussions.

Netizens expressed their opinions:
“A Big Potato V”: The involved hotel shows no responsibility, not willing to pay even this amount of compensation, already causing such a long delay.
“Righteous ZE”: The hotel’s item was faulty, causing harm to the customer, but the hotel only compensates for some medical expenses. Is this fair?
“Icy Goose ZV”: This kind of hotel simply doesn’t care about consumer rights.

Some netizens also questioned that the stone slab was cheaply glued on, which is why it suddenly detached without warning and struck the guest’s foot.
