On February 25th, Yunnan Dehong Prefecture in Yunnan Province experienced two consecutive earthquakes, measuring 4.6 and 3.6 on the Richter scale respectively, with tremors felt in towns like Tengchong and Ruili. When the earthquakes struck, residents were quick to seek shelter.
The China Earthquake Networks Center officially confirmed that at 14:00 on the 25th, there was a 3.6 magnitude earthquake in Yingjiang County, Dehong Dai and Jingpo Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province. The epicenter was at a depth of 10 kilometers, located at 24.72 degrees north latitude and 97.73 degrees east longitude.
Previously, at 11:15 on the 25th, Yingjiang County had already experienced a 4.6 magnitude earthquake at a depth of 10 kilometers, with the epicenter at 24.71 degrees north latitude and 97.71 degrees east longitude.
Yingjiang County is situated in the southwest of Yunnan, bordering Myanmar on three sides. The villages within 5 kilometers of the epicenter include Hongmushu, Tuanjie, Shangmulong, Lishuyuan, Shiba Cha, and Xinzhai, while the towns within 20 kilometers include Xima, Taiping, Tongbiguan, Nabang, and Nongzhang. The epicenter is 22 kilometers from Yingjiang County, 58 kilometers from Lianghe County, 60 kilometers from Longchuan County, and 79 kilometers from Ruili City.
Following the earthquakes, residents in Tengchong, Ruili, Mangshi, and other areas reported feeling the tremors.
Videos circulated online showed that during the earthquake, dogs at homes started barking frantically, followed by intense shaking of houses. In one video, a couple was seen carrying their child as they hurriedly ran to the yard for safety. In another video, employees at a jewelry store rushed outside as the earthquake hit.
