Xie Jinhe: Trump Will Not Hand Over TSMC to Beijing

Taiwan Caixin Media Chairman Xie Jinhe stated that President-elect Donald Trump’s MAGA manifesto needs TSMC and will not hand it over to Beijing.

Xie Jinhe posted on Facebook on Monday, November 11, under the title “Making China Great Again? Or Making America Great Again?” He mentioned that Trump’s victory in the U.S. election has greatly increased his global influence. However, Trump’s personality and views are not easily changed.

“However, every matter has core values, which is the fundamental principle,” Xie Jinhe wrote.

He said that the core goal of Trump’s administration is to make America great again (MGMA)! Looking back to when Trump was elected in 2016, the world’s attention was on China. Even Wall Street investment experts in the U.S. were optimistic about China and pessimistic about America.

At that time, Trump had just taken office, and the trade war was escalating. Many people asked Xie Jinhe whether China or America would win.

“I mentioned the simplest principle: Will Chinese people invest their money in America? Will Americans invest their money in China? Will Chinese people send their children to study in America? Will Americans send their children to study in China?” he recalled.

“I said, the flow of people and money determines the final outcome of the rivalry between the U.S. and China!” He added, “Similarly, the rise and fall of Taiwan’s economy are also related to the flow of people and money!”

Xie Jinhe believes that in recent years, Taiwan’s economy has been better than expected due to TSMC and capital inflows.

He pointed out that the focus of the upcoming issues is “Does America need TSMC more? Or does TSMC need America more?”

“The simplest question, if TSMC belongs to China, will America be great? Today, the wafer manufacturing process has been severely affected by China, UMC’s stock price has plummeted recently, and Powerchip is struggling. This is the reality of the industry!” Xie Jinhe wrote.

He mentioned that currently, the market value of the leading U.S. semiconductor industry player, Intel, is only one-tenth of TSMC’s, and Samsung from South Korea is far behind TSMC. Trump needs TSMC.

“This is the core issue! We don’t need to be overly optimistic, but we also don’t need to be pessimistic!”
