Last year, Ningbo’s Xiaolu Xi passed away due to a medical accident, sparking nationwide attention. Xiaolu Xi’s mother, Deng Rongrong, is still fighting for justice, but local authorities seem to be sending people to interfere. On Mother’s Day, May 10th, Deng Rongrong was trailed by an unidentified man. When confronted, the man brazenly said, “Even if you report me to the police, I’m not afraid, I’m this audacious!”
On May 10th in Ningbo, Zhejiang, Deng Rongrong, the person involved in the “Xiaolu Xi” incident, was being followed by a black sedan while she was on her way to the airport to send her lawyer.
Deng Rongrong questioned the man in the car, “Who ordered you to do this? Be careful, bad deeds bring retribution. Some money should not be taken, and you also have children of your own.”
The man claimed he was just helping a friend get to the airport. When pressed by Deng Rongrong, he retorted, “Even if you call the police, I’m not afraid. I’m just that audacious!” (Video link)
After Deng Rongrong reported the incident to the police, they arrived but only checked Deng Rongrong’s ticket and not the man’s. Deng Rongrong accused the two officers: “Is it because I am Deng Rongrong? Is it because of my daughter Xiaolu Xi’s case, that you are turning a blind eye? Are you targeting us, the victims’ family, or protecting the perpetrator? They call him a ‘suspect.’ We are the threatened ones.”
Video footage showed that the man tracking Deng Rongrong’s movements was using a mobile phone with what appeared to be an exclusive government work platform called “Zhezhengding,” restricted to civil servants and staff of public institutions in Zhejiang Province. Information provided by netizens indicated that the vehicle used by the man belonged to the Panhuo Police Station of the Yinzhou Branch of the Ningbo Public Security Bureau. (Video link)
That day, Deng Rongrong also posted on her social media circle that her younger brother, a university student, had sprained his foot, was resting at home, and was suddenly taken away by several police officers for questioning. When he returned, he was extremely tense. She also received threats from the police, “You might be the next one to go in.”
In tears, she said in a video, “I am heartbroken. Today is Mother’s Day, and my daughter has been lying in the freezer for 177 days, not even living for 177 days. My brother is almost losing his mind because of them. They are suppressing our family like this, my daughter lying broken in the freezer. What did we do wrong as a family?” (Video link)
Additionally, on May 9th, Deng Rongrong released a video revealing that Lawyer Kong, who was helping their family fight for justice, received a threatening call, warning him to stop intervening in Xiaolu Xi’s case. (Video link)
Last year on November 14th, Xiaolu Xi, a premature infant of five months, passed away at the Ningbo University Affiliated Hospital for Women and Children after undergoing heart surgery. Her mother, Deng Rongrong, publicly reported on social media, questioning the mistaken pre-surgery judgment of the operating doctor. Parents were informed before the surgery that it would last 2.5 to 3 hours, but it actually took about 7 hours. After the surgery, the child was sent to the ICU and died despite rescue efforts.
Since then, Xiaolu Xi’s parents have been continuously seeking the truth about their child’s death. The incident triggered widespread questioning of China’s medical quality and doctor-patient relationships across the nation. Many parents have shown their support online and offline. Under significant public pressure, the Ningbo City Health Commission reported that an investigative team was established. By February 5, 2026, the investigative team reported the incident as a “first-class medical accident, leading surgeon’s medical license revoked.” However, netizens and family members believe that the official report downplayed the severity of the incident, prompting Xiaolu Xi’s family to continue fighting for justice.
