Yunnan University of Finance and Economics held a fall job fair for graduates on campus, where a bathhouse came to recruit “massage therapists” at high salaries, with preference given to those with relevant experience, sparking discussions on the internet.
On September 27, Yunnan University of Finance and Economics held a graduate “job fair”. According to pictures circulated by netizens, at seat B16 in the venue of the “job fair”, Yizhu SPA Health Club in Xishan District, Kunming City, Yunnan Province posted recruitment information.
The information showed that the company was hiring several massage therapists, aged between 20 and 40, with experience in massage preferred. The salary ranged from 10,000 to 18,000 per month, with a 50% commission on massages and daily wage payments.
Reported by the “New Beijing News”, on September 29, it was learned from the employment office of Yunnan University of Finance and Economics that the job fair was organized by the Chinese Vocational College of Yunnan University of Finance and Economics.
In response, the office of employment and entrepreneurship services of the college stated that indeed a related company had signed up to attend the college’s job fair. Subsequently, due to negligence on the part of the college staff, the company was allowed to enter the recruitment venue, stating, “That company has also been checked by us, it is a regular company with all the necessary registration information.”
Upon discovering this situation, the college promptly removed the recruitment position of the company. The above-mentioned company name did not appear in the list of participating companies published by the Chinese Vocational College of Yunnan University of Finance and Economics.
Yizhu SPA Health Club stated that the company did recruit from universities before, but later their booth was removed, stating, “They said that university students won’t come to do massages.”
Public information shows that the Chinese Vocational College of Yunnan University of Finance and Economics was established in 2011, and is the official teaching unit of Yunnan University of Finance and Economics. It is a public institution of higher education, enrolling students at the undergraduate level.
“The audacity to openly recruit massage therapists at a university!” This news quickly sparked discussions on the internet.
Regarding this recruitment, some netizens raised doubts, pointing out several questionable aspects. For example, among university students, who meets the criteria for having “relevant experience”? Is this the recruitment standard for university students? What kind of “regular massage institution” pays on a daily basis? What kind of massage earns a “commission” and is even divided equally with a foot bathhouse?
Some netizens also expressed that in the current job market where it’s hard to find work, having an income of 2000 to 4000 yuan is already considered good, so the prospect of earning over 10,000 through massage is very attractive. “There are all kinds of professions, and being a foot massage technician is one of them.” “As long as it’s a legal and compliant industry, what’s the issue with university students working as massage therapists?”
