International Lions Club Flushing Branch in New York Donates Over $10,000 to Support Hualien Earthquake Victims

After the strong earthquake that struck Hualien on April 3, the Flushing Central Lions Club, a branch of the International Lions Club in New York, generously donated funds to aid the earthquake victims in Taiwan, raising a total of $13,700 within a week to provide assistance.

The Flushing Central Lions Club held a press conference on April 21 at the New York Chinese Culture and Community Service Center. The Chairperson of the Supervisory Committee of the association, Kaiqi Wu, shared that by April 10, 16 members of the Lions Club had successfully raised $3,700 within a week. Combined with a special allocation of $10,000, a total of $13,700 was donated to the Relief Foundation under the Ministry of Health and Welfare in Taiwan for the earthquake-stricken area in Hualien.

Members of the Lions Club who participated in the donation attended the press conference on Sunday, witnessing the goodwill donations that were sent to Taiwan to contribute to the recovery and rebuilding efforts in the aftermath of the Hualien earthquake.

Tina, a member of the Flushing Central Lions Club, expressed that the donations from the special allocation do not discriminate based on nationality or country, but given the recent earthquake in Taiwan, as Taiwanese individuals, they felt the need to show their support to Taiwan.

Yongfeng Chen, Director of the New York Chinese Culture and Community Service Center, introduced that the Relief Foundation under the Ministry of Health and Welfare opened a special fundraising campaign for the Hualien earthquake disaster on April 3, which will run until May 3, for a total of one month. Afterward, the foundation will transparently disclose the usage and allocation of the donated funds.
