Grease Spread Causes Big Fire, Destroying Santa Rosa Residence Garage

On Wednesday morning, according to multiple media reports, firefighters in Santa Rosa extinguished a residential fire caused by a discarded oily rag.

The Santa Rosa Fire Department stated that around 1:35 am, they received a call reporting a garage on fire on Hillsboro Circle in the 4700 block, with smoke coming from the house. Upon arrival, firefighters found smoke emanating from the garage of a single-story house.

Firefighters swiftly entered the residence to check if the fire had spread to the living areas and to search for any residents still inside.

According to the fire department, the fire had not spread to the living areas and was confined to the attached garage. Residents were awoken by smoke detectors and escaped before the firefighters arrived, resulting in no injuries.

Fire officials reported that the fire was brought under control within 15 minutes. It was determined to be an accident caused by a discarded oily rag.

The fire department estimated the property damage to be $20,000.
