On Friday, January 23, tens of thousands of American citizens gathered in the capital Washington D.C. to participate in the 53rd annual “March for Life” event, also known as the anti-abortion march. President Trump delivered a speech via video link from the Oval Office of the White House, emphasizing the importance of restoring faith in tradition.
In the morning of that day, people from various backgrounds, ethnicities, and ages gathered at the National Mall in Washington D.C., holding banners that read “Support Life”, taking part in the largest global anti-abortion march.
The theme of this year’s march is “Life is a Gift”, emphasizing the beauty and value of life in all circumstances, deserving to be protected.
President Trump stated in his speech that rebuilding a culture that supports life is crucial and a battle that this administration must win, not only in terms of policies but also in correcting the distorted ideas ingrained in people’s minds. He emphasized, “Under the leadership of the Trump administration, we are steadfastly defending religious freedom. We are reshaping America’s faith. We are welcoming back the return of God.”
On the same day, Vice President Pence, Speaker of the House Johnson, and several lawmakers were also present at the event and delivered speeches. Pence announced at the gathering that the United States will stop funding any organizations overseas that promote so-called “diversity and transgender issues”. This marks a significant shift in the U.S. foreign aid policy and is the latest move by the Trump administration to combat DEI initiatives and transgender issues.
On January 22, 1973, the U.S. Supreme Court made a ruling on the “Roe v. Wade” case, legalizing abortion nationwide in the United States. Since then, every January, anti-abortion activists across the country hold protest marches to express their reverence for life and opposition to abortion.
In June 2022, the U.S. Supreme Court reversed the decision in the “Roe v. Wade” case, marking a historic turning point for the anti-abortion movement. Currently, more than half of the states in the U.S. have completely banned or nearly banned abortion.
