Salt Lake City Police Investigating a Fatal Shooting Case

On January 13th, at around 5 a.m., a shooting incident took place near the intersection of South 750th Street and East 1300th Street in Salt Lake City, the capital of Utah in the United States. According to the Salt Lake City police, one person died in the incident, and another individual has been detained for questioning.

Detective Michael Ruff of the Salt Lake City police stated that investigators believe that the two individuals had a dispute, during which one person shot the other.

The victim was rushed to a local hospital but unfortunately succumbed to their injuries shortly after. The shooting suspect has been taken into custody at the Salt Lake City Police Department for questioning. As of 7 a.m., the suspect had not been formally arrested.

Authorities have not yet released additional details, and the incident remains under investigation.

This incident follows another shooting that occurred on the evening of January 7th at a parking lot of a Mormon church in the city, which resulted in the deaths of two people and six others being injured, three of them critically. No suspects have been apprehended in connection with that incident, and law enforcement is still actively pursuing leads.

According to FBI statistics from 2024, the murder and non-negligent manslaughter rate in Salt Lake City is approximately 5.17 per 100,000 people. Among cities with a population of over 50,000 in the United States, Salt Lake City ranks around 235th in terms of murder rates.
