JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon stated that artificial intelligence (AI) may change the recruitment landscape of multiple industries, but there are certain skills that, if mastered, can bring you a plethora of job opportunities.
“AIs may eliminate some jobs, but that doesn’t mean people won’t have other jobs,” Dimon said in an interview with Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures” on December 7. “The next job may be better, but they must learn how to excel in that job.”
He emphasized that individuals with specialized skills will always be highly valued.
For those concerned that AI may affect their careers, Dimon advised, “My recommendation to everyone is to cultivate critical thinking, learn skills, emotional intelligence (EQ), how to perform well in meetings, how to communicate, and how to write. You will have a lot of job opportunities.”
Some other experts and business leaders widely agree with Dimon’s views. Amazon Web Services CEO Matt Garman said on CNBC’s “Closing Bell Overtime” program on August 8 that critical thinking, the ability to analyze information and draw conclusions, is a key factor for success in the AI era.
Studies indicate that while AI can perform various administrative and skill-based tasks, it currently cannot make nuanced judgments.
“You need to be creative, excel in critical thinking, and be flexible,” Garman said. “I believe that learning new things and adaptability are equally important as learning any specific skill.”
Similarly, some experts point out that strong communication skills and emotional intelligence are essential components of achieving success in the modern workplace. Effectively conveying ideas and interacting with colleagues bring obvious benefits. Being perceived as an excellent communicator can help you build relationships, be more likable, and gain influence in the office.
As AI continues to advance, more and more people worry that AI will replace human work. Some experts believe that AI is one of the factors contributing to the rise in unemployment rates among young people. Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei warned in May that this technology could wipe out up to half of white-collar jobs in the next five years.
According to an analysis report released by the McKinsey Global Institute on November 25, AI and AI-driven robots can now perform 57% of jobs in the United States. In the era of large-scale automation, the way most human skills are used is expected to undergo significant changes.
The report also shows that AI-replaceable jobs in the United States involve tasks of legal assistants, administrative support, office positions, and daily tasks of certain programming jobs. These tasks can all be automated through AI software.
Dimon stressed the need for proper regulation of AI. He stated that AI, like airplanes, drugs, and cars, has its downsides. Everything can be exploited by bad actors.
