On the evening of November 29th, Chow Yun-fat served as the closing guest for the annual Asian music event “2025 Mnet Asian Music Awards” (MAMA), responsible for presenting the Artist of the Year award. Dressed in a black suit with white hair, he choked up during his speech. The entire audience then observed a moment of silence in memory of the victims of the Hong Kong Tai Po Wah Fu Estate fire.
After a 7-year hiatus, the annual “2025 MAMA Awards” ceremony returned to Hong Kong this year. Initially, Chow Yun-fat and Yang Ziqiong (Michelle Yeoh) had considered declining the invitation to present awards due to the Tai Po Wah Fu Estate fire. However, Chow Yun-fat changed his mind and personally attended the event on the evening of the 29th, presenting the most prestigious award of the night, the Artist of the Year, while leading the audience in praying for the over a hundred victims of the fire.
With his silver hair and dressed in a black suit with a black ribbon pinned, Chow Yun-fat addressed the audience in Cantonese, Mandarin, and English, saying, “Before presenting the award, I have a small request. In order to convey sincere support to the residents of Hong Kong’s Wah Fu Estate, please everyone stand up.” At one point, he choked up, suppressing his grief, expressing, “To all those who have lost their beloved family members and friends, I offer my most sincere condolences.” Subsequently, the lights were dimmed, and a minute of silence was observed.
When the lights came back on, Chow Yun-fat composed himself. Having presented the same award in 2015, he joked, “I waited for the MAMA to invite me, waited for this opportunity for 7 years, until my hair turned white!” Successfully lightening the atmosphere in the venue.
Chow Yun-fat lightheartedly urged in Korean, “Hurry, there’s no time left”. Finally, he joyfully announced that the winner was G-Dragon (Kwon Ji-yong). Not only did he embrace G-Dragon with delight, but they also playfully held hands and danced together. The interaction between these two iconic stars peaked the excitement of the evening.
