On November 24, 2025, a body language expert revealed that the first meeting between President Trump and Mayor-elect Mamdani of New York at the White House on the 21st left people feeling unusually friendly and happy. Mamdani’s stance as the mayor-elect of New York indicates that after months of mutual attacks, he wants to play the role of a “good boy.”
The New York Post quoted Dr. Carole Lieberman, a body language expert, as saying that the “eccentric combination” in politics conveyed a “extreme joy” in their non-verbal messages during the interview with reporters after their private meeting.
“Their meeting just now seemed like someone released laughing gas, because President Trump and Mayor-elect Mamdani looked ecstatic. Their interaction was like a ‘feast of love’,” Dr. Lieberman said. “Mamdani stood like a schoolboy, with his hands tightly folded most of the time, trying hard to make himself look like a ‘good boy’, as if to say, ‘Yes, sir, do you have anything else good?'”
During the 30-minute press conference, the 34-year-old Mamdani stood beside the 79-year-old Trump with his hands folded in front of him, smiling. Trump sat relaxed at the President’s desk, and the two interacted multiple times.
The doctor mentioned that Trump was very affable, gently patting Mamdani’s hand and shaking hands with him. Afterwards, they described the atmosphere of the meeting as friendly and productive.
“I saw a very rational person,” Trump also said, “a person who sincerely wants to make New York great again,” “I’m rooting for him.”
On the other hand, Mamdani praised the meeting as “productive”, saying, “I enjoyed our conversation and look forward to working with him to provide more affordable housing for the people of New York.”
