On the evening of August 15th, the T League RGT in North America welcomed the young baseball players from Beishi Junior High School in Taichung, Taiwan, at a banquet held in Fremont. The event marked the official commencement of the “2025 San Francisco Taiwan Day – Passionate Baseball Spirit” series of activities.
The “San Francisco Bay Area Taiwan Day” was established in 2022 by Overseas Community Affairs Council member Lin Zhengyuan, founder of the North America T League RGT Chen Wenzé, and Bay Area entrepreneur Zhang Jiahao. Its aim is to unite Taiwanese baseball enthusiasts and showcase Taiwan to the world. Lin Zhengyuan emphasized that baseball is Taiwan’s pride, and through games and exchanges, they hope to convey Taiwan’s passion to the world.
This summer, the Bay Area will host a number of Taiwan-US baseball events, including:
– Friendship match between Beishi Junior High School and Mingwei Taiwan-US Junior High School on August 23 and 24
– Athletics team’s first-ever “Taiwan Day” in Sacramento on August 28
– “Wiliamport Night” for Dongyuan Elementary School, representing Taiwan and the Asia-Pacific region in the 2025 Little League World Series (LLWS) on September 1
– San Jose Giants’ “Taiwan Day,” continuing the theme of supporting Taiwanese players in the US on September 23
Chen Wenzé told Dajiyuan that this is the 6th time the Taiwan baseball team has come to San Francisco for training. This time, ten American coaches volunteered to assist, showing that the passion for baseball transcends borders. He emphasized that in the past, only national teams could come to the US, but now through private initiatives, new channels have been opened for more Taiwanese teams to train and compete overseas. He called on the community to continue supporting and actively participating in “Taiwan Day.”
At the banquet, several American coaches were introduced. Jay Alvarez from the Dominican Republic, currently the head coach of Crystal Springs High School, expressed his excitement to be able to coach Taiwanese players in Sunnyvale’s Diamond Training Center using the latest technological equipment.
Additionally, Bobby Kanno, head coach of Mission San Jose High School, former NFL player Chris Cooper, San Jose State University coach Dalton Bowling, and coach Ed “Cowboy” Bowling, who has collaborated with the team for over twenty years, also shared their experiences on stage.
The event also thanked sponsors for their support. Zhang Junjie, the General Manager of MEAN WELL in the United States, encouraged players to give their all and bring glory to Taiwan. He Jialing, President of the Dinggao World Foundation, expressed her honor to promote Taiwan-US exchanges. Gao Chunhui, founder of “Sincerely Love Taiwan,” praised the founders for their selfless dedication.
Accompanying the event were Liu Fangru, the educational director of Beishi Junior High School, and head coach Chen Yanrui, who led 16 players and several parents to the US. Chen Yanrui looks forward to learning new techniques and teaching methods, while Liu Fangru hopes the children can connect internationally and gain rare experiences and opportunities to fulfill their dreams.
