President Trump announced on Tuesday that he will be heading to Iowa before the Independence Day weekend to kick off the 250th anniversary celebrations of the founding of the United States with a “very special” patriotic event.
The 250th anniversary of American independence will be celebrated on July 4, 2026, and President Trump has repeatedly stated that his administration will plan a year-long series of grand events to mark the occasion.
In a post on his Truth Social account on Tuesday afternoon, President Trump stated, “I will be traveling to one of my favorite places in the world – beautiful Iowa – to kick off our exciting 250th anniversary celebrations of the founding of our country!” He mentioned that Iowa has supported him in three elections, citing their agreement with his policies benefiting farmers and small businesses, as well as their love for the United States.
He expressed that the event will pay tribute to “our great nation and the heroes who fought for freedom,” and hinted at discussing his achievements in trade, especially in agriculture, stating, “You will be very happy to hear – there will be a lot of people!”
The event is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. local time on Thursday at the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines.
Monica Crowley, spokesperson for the organizing entity “America250,” stated that this event will mark the magnificent beginning of a year-long national commemoration, showcasing “our fresh commitments and visions for the future of America.”
On Tuesday afternoon, the U.S. Senate passed the comprehensive tax and spending bill led by President Trump, also known as the “Big and Beautiful Act,” aimed at advancing his agenda on taxation, immigration, energy, defense, and national debt.
At the time, President Trump was inspecting a newly built illegal immigrant detention center in the Florida Everglades and participating in a roundtable meeting. Upon learning of the bill’s passage, he promptly congratulated, “America will see unprecedented growth. The ‘Big and Beautiful Act’ will significantly reduce the deficit, paving the fiscal path towards a golden age for us.”
He also urged House Republicans to unite and “enjoy this moment, cast a ‘yes’ vote. May God bless all of you!”
After nearly 12 hours of debate, the House Rules Committee passed the Senate version of the bill early Wednesday morning, paving the way for the upcoming full House vote. House Speaker Mike Johnson stated that the vote will take place on Wednesday or Thursday, with Republican leaders promising to complete the legislative process before the July 4th Independence Day.
