Last Saturday, on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in Los Angeles, Chinese Americans gathered to show their support for the “recall of Communist Party agents” movement in Taiwan. They expressed overseas Chinese people’s protest against the Chinese Communist Party’s infiltration of Taiwan’s political and social spheres, attempting to undermine Taiwan’s democratic freedom.
“Support Taiwan, recall the Communist Party agents!” “Taiwan belongs to the Taiwanese people, not to the CCP!” “Protecting Taiwan is protecting our future!” These slogans echoed in the bustling area of Hollywood, attracting passersby. Since most of the pedestrians were Westerners, the participants also displayed slogans in both Chinese and English.
The event was organized by veteran of the Chinese Democratic Party, Zhu Yufu, and jointly hosted by the National Committee of the Chinese Democratic Party, the Unified Headquarters of the Chinese Democratic Party, the Chinese Democracy and Human Rights Alliance, and the All-Powerful Christ Anti-Communist Front. The organizers pointed out that the CCP, under the guise of peace and nationalism, continues to send agents into Taiwan’s political arena, attempting to undermine the free democratic system, manipulate the political environment, and subvert Taiwan’s sovereignty.
One of the event organizers, Fang Lanfeng, stated in a speech, “These agents are a false mask of peace and are the CCP’s political bridgehead in Taiwan. They must be fully exposed and thoroughly recalled.”
In the 1960s, while the CCP was launching political movements on the mainland, Taiwan’s economy was continuously advancing. Over the following few decades, it entered a period of rapid growth, creating the economic miracle of the “Four Asian Tigers.” Starting in the 1980s during President Chiang Ching-kuo’s leadership, Taiwan began to lift martial law, abolish party bans and press censorship, vigorously promoting the democratization process. All of these developments were highly regarded by the Chinese people who have suffered under the CCP’s rule, as they do not want Taiwan to fall prey to the CCP’s influence.
Representative of the Chinese Democracy and Human Rights Alliance, Peng Xiaoliang, stated, “Taiwan is the last democratic sanctuary in the Chinese-speaking world. Once lost, the entire Chinese-speaking democratic society will be destroyed, and the CCP’s reach will know no bounds.”
The CCP’s continuous infiltration of Taiwan’s democracy and the use of agents to threaten Taiwan’s foundation of freedom have raised concerns among Taiwanese scholars. Professor Li Youtan, a political scientist in Taiwan, although not present at the event, provided advice to the gathering through phone consultation. During a previous symposium in Los Angeles, he emphasized, “The authoritarian CCP is the common enemy of all Chinese people, and constitutional democracy is the true path to peace and hope for Taiwan and the entire Chinese nation.”
Speakers at the event repeatedly mentioned the tragic lessons from Hong Kong, reminding the people of Taiwan to stay vigilant and not be deceived by the CCP. Host Guo Bin stated, “Hong Kong has fallen, and we cannot let Taiwan go down the same path. The CCP relies on violence to maintain stability, and we must not allow it to cloak its evil deeds in a guise of democracy.”
The “Chinese Protect Taiwan, Anti-Communist Restore Nation Party” in Taiwan supported the Los Angeles gathering remotely, emphasizing “mass recall, great success.” The organizers of the event called on the international democratic community and global Chinese people to continue to pay attention to Taiwan’s democratic situation, firmly support the Taiwanese people in recalling the CCP agents through democratic votes, participate together, join hands to resist communism, and safeguard Taiwan’s freedom and democracy. ◇
