96-year-old Li Ka-shing attends Mayday concert, tapping along to the music in a wheelchair.

Hong Kong’s richest man and founder of the Cheung Kong Group, Li Ka-shing, made an appearance at the Kai Tak Sports Park in Hong Kong on May 10th to attend a concert by the Taiwanese band Mayday. Li Ka-shing, using a self-driving electric wheelchair, arrived at the venue and was seen chatting and taking photos with those around him in the exclusive box seats, all while enjoying the music and tapping along to the beat.

According to a report by “Hong Kong 01”, Mayday’s “25th Anniversary Tour Concert” was in its second show out of four at the Kai Tak Sports Park on May 10th. Accompanied by bodyguards and assistants, Li Ka-shing drove his own electric wheelchair to the VIP box seats.

The report mentioned that the box seats where Li Ka-shing watched the concert were arranged by Zhou Kaixuan, current director of the Li Ka-shing Foundation and founder of the Zhou Kaixuan Foundation. Zhou Kaixuan and former Commercial Radio senior executive Yu Che were also present in the box seats. Li Ka-shing not only swayed to the music during the performance but also waved a glow stick in enthusiasm while occasionally capturing the moment with his phone.

Observing the energetic and enthusiastic fans below, Li Ka-shing expressed that seeing everyone so happy made him happy too. Netizens humorously teased that Li Ka-shing is Mayday’s “most extravagant fan”.

When leaving the concert, Li Ka-shing was asked by the media about the progress of the controversial sale of the Panama port by the China Merchants and CK Hutchison, to which he did not respond. Zhou Kaixuan, standing beside him, remarked, “Don’t ask about that, Mr. Li has already retired. It’s rare for him to come out like this.”

In fact, Li Ka-shing has a long-standing connection with Mayday. Some netizens uncovered a clip from Mayday’s visit to Hong Kong in 2003 for a Christmas event, where lead singer Ashin joked that he had learned Cantonese for a few months and could only say, “Why am I not Li Ka-shing?” This unexpected revelation drew laughter from the audience, with Ashin quipping, “Seems like this phrase isn’t very useful after all,” causing another round of laughter throughout the venue.
