On May 12, 2025, it was reported that Liu Dongsheng, the vice governor of Xiangxi Prefecture in Hunan Province, voluntarily reported himself for investigation.
According to the announcement from the Discipline Inspection Commission of the Communist Party of China in Hunan Province on May 12, Liu Dongsheng, a member of the Party leadership group of the Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture government and the vice governor, is suspected of serious violations of discipline and law. He took the initiative to confess his problems and is currently undergoing disciplinary review and supervision investigation by the Discipline Inspection Commission of Hunan Province.
Liu Dongsheng, born in September 1977 in Hengnan, Hunan Province, has worked at the China Aero Geophysical Survey and Remote Sensing Center Postdoctoral Workstation (in collaboration with the Postdoctoral Mobility Station of Tsinghua University’s Department of Civil Engineering). He later served as the Deputy Director of the Construction Project Quality and Safety Supervision Management Station of the Hunan Provincial Department of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, Deputy Director and Director of the Office of World Heritage and Scenic Spots Management, and principal of the Construction Cadre School.
In 2016, Liu Dongsheng became the county head of Longshan County, in 2019 he was appointed as the Secretary of the Longshan County Party Committee, and in January 2022, he was promoted to vice governor of Xiangxi Prefecture before the recent investigation.
Of note, the Third Central Inspection Team of the Communist Party of China is currently conducting inspections in Hunan for approximately two and a half months.
According to the Shangguan News, when Liu Dongsheng was appointed as the vice governor of Xiangxi Prefecture, Long Xiaohua was the Deputy Secretary of the State Party Committee and the Governor. In September 2023, the Hunan Provincial Procuratorate issued an arrest warrant against Long Xiaohua for alleged bribery.
Apart from Long Xiaohua and Liu Dongsheng, Liu Zhenyu, a former member of the Standing Committee of the Xiangxi Prefecture Party Committee and former Deputy Governor, was investigated in March 2023 and placed under ‘double designation’ in September 2023.
