The Taiwan Central Weather Bureau announced that at 6:09 p.m. today (5th), a Richter magnitude 5.5 earthquake occurred with a depth of 6.1 kilometers. The epicenter was located 34.9 kilometers southeast of the Hualien County Government (in the eastern sea area of Taiwan).
According to the Taiwan Central Weather Bureau, the maximum seismic intensity in Hualien County was level 4, while Yilan County and Nantou County reached level 3. Taichung City, Taitung County, New Taipei City, Yunlin County, Changhua County, and Chiayi County registered a maximum intensity of level 2. Taoyuan City, Miaoli County, Hsinchu County, Taipei City, Hsinchu City, Chiayi City, Kaohsiung City, Tainan City, and Keelung City reported a maximum intensity of level 1.
The Taiwan Central Weather Bureau issued disaster prevention alerts (national-level warnings) for Yilan County and Hualien County, reminding people in the eastern sea area to be cautious of significant earthquakes and to take precautions to “drop down, take cover, and hold on” for safety.
Further reports from the Taiwan Central Weather Bureau indicated that at 6:21 p.m. today, a Richter magnitude 4.4 earthquake occurred with a depth of 16.7 kilometers. The epicenter was located 30.3 kilometers east of the Hualien County Government (in the eastern sea area of Taiwan), with a maximum seismic intensity of level 3 in Hualien County.
