Iconic rock band “Smith Airship” announces retirement during tour.

Legendary American hard rock band “Aerosmith,” which debuted in 1969, recently announced their retirement from touring on August 2nd due to the health issues of lead singer Steven Tyler. The band had earlier canceled several shows because of Tyler’s health reasons, leaving fans heartbroken.

At the age of 76, Steven Tyler underwent throat surgery in the past and has long been rumored to have vocal cord injuries. In an official statement released on Instagram, Aerosmith stated that despite several months of treatment by a professional medical team, Tyler’s vocal cords have not fully recovered, leading to the difficult decision to retire from touring.

Aerosmith expressed gratitude towards their fans, who have supported them for over 50 years, acknowledging that it was the fans’ unwavering support that allowed them to make history in the rock music industry. They expressed their honor to have been a part of their fans’ lives, whether through intimate venue performances or extensive tours, leaving their music imprinted in the lives of their supporters.

The band had previously announced a farewell tour in 2017, with Tyler stating that “the time had come.” The “Peace Out” farewell tour commenced in September last year with plans for 40 shows, but unfortunately, only three shows were held with many dates postponed. The tour officially came to an end on January 26, 2024, following the cancellation of all remaining performances.

The sudden announcement of retirement during the tour has shocked and saddened Aerosmith fans, with concerts still pending. The band emphasized that ticket refunds are available for canceled shows, with some websites offering automatic refunds to fans, requiring no further actions.

Formed in 1969 and known as the “Bad Boys from Boston,” Aerosmith, also referred to as the “Aeromen,” is a renowned American hard rock band. Their music, blending elements of pop, heavy metal, glam metal, and blues, has sold over 150 million records worldwide, with 65.5 million sales in the United States alone, maintaining the record for the most best-selling platinum records by an American band.

Aerosmith has charted 21 times in the Top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100, topped the Mainstream Rock chart 9 times, won 4 Grammy Awards, 10 MTV Music Awards, and in 2001, were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The band’s impact is such that even in the realm of Japanese manga, their name lives on, with one of the characters in “JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind” named after the band – Smith Flying Ship.
