SM Entertainment “No Longer Tolerating,” demands EXO-CBX fulfill contractual obligations

On June 10th, the popular subgroup of the Korean boy band EXO, EXO-CBX, consisting of Baekhyun, Xiumin, and Chen, held a press conference through their management company INB100. They accused SM Entertainment of failing to fulfill their contract and mistreating EXO-CBX. As a result, EXO-CBX declared that they would not be paying the 10% share of their individual activities. In response, SM Entertainment has filed a lawsuit demanding EXO-CBX fulfill their contractual obligations.

INB100 claimed during the press conference that SM Entertainment did not fulfill the agreement signed in June last year, which stipulated the payment of 5.5% of album and music distribution fees, and also required a 10% deduction from the individual activities of the CBX members.

Furthermore, INB100’s lawyer stated that if SM Entertainment did not comply with the contract for paying the 5.5% distribution fees, INB100 would also not pay the 10% share of individual activities to SM Entertainment. If SM Entertainment fails to provide salary settlement information for the three members and the basis for it, INB100 will take legal action against SM Entertainment.

On the same evening, SM Entertainment stated that their demand for a 10% share of the members’ individual activities was based on a court-determined standard during a contract dispute with EXO’s Chinese members. They emphasized that CBX had signed the contract content after discussions with SM Entertainment, and were willfully disregarding legally binding agreements.

On the 13th, the Korean media outlet “Law News Report” reported that SM Entertainment had filed a lawsuit on the 12th at the Seoul Eastern District Court demanding CBX fulfill their contract. The lawsuit document stated that SM Entertainment could no longer tolerate CBX’s unreasonable actions.

Following the publication of the report, SM Entertainment confirmed to several Korean media outlets that they did indeed file a lawsuit with the court yesterday. They stated that they would respond to the matter in accordance with the law and principles.
