Disneyland officials in Anaheim, California stated that on Sunday, June 21, a 13-year-old boy climbed out of the “Log Flume” attraction and slid approximately 50 feet down a waterfall before being taken to the hospital for examination. The incident was also captured on a mobile phone video at the scene.
The video obtained by TMZ website shows the teenager leaving the log boat during the operation of the “Tiana’s Bayou Adventure” amusement ride, then sliding down the final steep waterway section of the attraction. Disney staff immediately stopped the operation of the ride upon noticing him leaving the ride vehicle.
Emergency rescue personnel from the Anaheim Fire Department rushed to the scene. As a precaution, the boy was taken to a nearby hospital for examination and has since been discharged and returned home.
At the time of this report, Epoch Times’ request for comment from Disneyland has not yet received a response.
The official website of the theme park indicates that the attraction “does not have seat belts or safety bars” and stipulates that “children under 7 must be accompanied by someone over 14 to ride.”
Following the accident, the park temporarily closed the attraction to carry out safety procedures. On Monday (22nd), the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health (Cal/OSHA) sent inspectors to examine the facility and approved the resumption of operation the following day.
Cal/OSHA spokesperson Katherine Wzorek stated on Wednesday (24th) via email to Epoch Times that the bureau’s investigation into the incident in the amusement park’s water and cable car department “did not find any operational issues.”
The “Tiana’s Bayou Adventure” attraction opened at Disneyland at the end of 2024, inspired by Disney’s 2009 animated film “The Princess and the Frog.”
This attraction replaced the original Splash Mountain ride, featuring multiple indoor scenes and concluding with a thrilling high-speed descent.
The name of the involved teenager has not been disclosed, and there have been no reports of injuries at this time. Further investigation into the incident is ongoing.
