On March 26, attorney Yu Kai, director of Xiaolin Law Firm in Shandong, went to the judicial department of the Chinese Communist Party and held up a sign. After submitting a report on the illegal acts of setting up a “key control lawyers” list, he was taken to the enforcement center in Xicheng District for investigation.
The “Freedom Constitutional Alliance·Today’s Questioning” forum post stated that Attorney Yu Kai this time made a real-name report on the illegal practices of the “lawyer blacklist”. The core demands of the sign were: 1. Independence of the Lawyers Association, free payment 2. Abolishing the annual inspection of lawyers’ licenses.
At the same time, Yu Kai also filed a lawsuit against the director of the Qingdao Judicial Bureau, Deng Huanli, for alleged abuse of power and significant unexplained assets, among other crimes.
According to information provided by insiders, at noon on March 26, Wang Yu’s husband, Bao Longjun (also a lawyer), received a call from the Xicheng District Public Security Sub-bureau, asking him to come over. Bao Longjun, along with Li Guobei, Zhang Xin Nian, and several other lawyers, went there. Later, Bao Longjun was taken to the enforcement center of the Xicheng District Sub-bureau and lost contact.
On March 27 at noon, after having tea with Lawyer Lu Siwei, Wang Yu suddenly encountered more than a dozen police officers who forcibly separated them. Wang Yu was taken away by force and there has been no news since.
Lu Siwei was taken to the Fuxinji Police Post for a record statement. On the morning of March 28, Lu Siwei messaged, “I was taken to the Fuxinji Police Post in Xicheng District for record statement on the afternoon of the 27th, with the case showing administrative category, and my status as a witness. Some questions were asked about my appeal to the judicial department for administrative review. My purpose in Beijing this time is to recover property unlawfully detained by Laos. Around 9 p.m. that evening, the handling police officer told me I could leave. Li Xiongbing and Zhang Lei lawyers were with me. As of midnight on the 27th, Yu Kai, Bao Longjun, and Wang Yu are still under investigation.
Lu Siwei said, “I am now demanding two things: compensation and obtaining a passport to lift the border control.”
Lu Siwei was arrested while passing through Laos in July 2023 and repatriated to China on September 23. On October 10, 2024, he was sentenced to 11 months for “illegal border crossing.” In October 2025, Lu Siwei entrusted Lawyer Li Xiongbing to send a lawyer’s letter to the Laotian Embassy in China, holding Laos authorities accountable for serious violations of his personal and property rights, as well as breaches of international obligations.
As of the time of publication, there have been no further updates on Wang Yu and Bao Longjun.
