Guangzhou lesbian receives CT scan, hospital issues three different reports

In recent days, a female patient in Guangzhou had three consecutive inconsistent reports in CT scans of the same area during a physical examination at the Southern Medical University Southern Hospital. The patient was concerned that the misdiagnosis could affect her future purchase of commercial insurance and requested the hospital to provide a “Diagnosis Record Clarification Certificate,” but her request was denied.

According to reports from Da Xiang News, on March 16, Li Xiaoyan (pseudonym) from Guangzhou sought help, stating that in December 2025, she experienced a roller-coaster-like medical treatment process at the Southern Medical University Southern Hospital. Within two weeks, the hospital issued three completely different reports regarding the CT scans of the same area.

During the rights protection process, Li Xiaoyan’s core demand was to request the hospital to issue a formal “Diagnosis Record Clarification Certificate.” She explained that this certificate is crucial for her future purchase of commercial health insurance, as it can help avoid being denied coverage or charged extra due to errors in the “tumor” diagnosis records.

However, the hospital refused Li Xiaoyan’s request citing “no such report documents” and “report modification is possible” as reasons.

On March 17, the staff responsible for handling the incident at the Southern Medical University Southern Hospital stated that the error was due to the negligence of the doctor issuing the report, and the hospital would dismiss the doctor responsible for issuing the reports.

Regarding Li Xiaoyan’s request for the hospital to issue a formal “Diagnosis Record Clarification Certificate,” the hospital stated that they “cannot issue such a certificate,” but suggested an alternative solution to try deleting the erroneous diagnosis records within the hospital’s internal systems.

In response, Li Xiaoyan expressed her dissatisfaction, stating that she needed formal proof to prevent being denied insurance coverage or charged extra in the future. She was concerned that the misdiagnosis might still exist on multiple platforms. Both parties are currently in negotiations.

On March 19, in response to the above situation, the Southern Medical University Southern Hospital issued a situation report stating that on December 12, 2025, the doctor involved violated the work process during the CT imaging diagnosis of the patient, did not review the results, issued an incorrect report, and later violated the work system by personally modifying the diagnosis opinion, leading to the continued presence of errors in the diagnosis report.

The report also mentioned “negotiating solutions with the patient,” but did not clearly state whether the hospital would issue the formal “Diagnosis Record Clarification Certificate” requested by Li Xiaoyan.

This case has sparked discussions among some netizens, with some commenting that this is just the tip of the iceberg of strange incidents in mainland Chinese hospitals.
