Academy of Sciences Withdraws Academician Liu Guozhi’s Resume – Former Deputy Minister Attracts Attention from Xi’an

On March 18, it was discovered that the personal information of Liu Guozhi, former director of the Military Committee Science and Technology Commission of the Chinese Communist Party and academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, has been removed from the official website of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. The related introduction pages cannot be accessed normally. Currently, no official announcement or explanation has been released regarding this matter.

According to public records, Liu Guozhi was born in November 1960 in Jin County, Liaoning, and is a pioneer and leader in the field of high-power microwave technology research in China. He obtained his bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees in Engineering Physics from Tsinghua University, where he received his Ph.D. in 1992.

From 1986 to 2002, he worked at the Northwest Institute of Nuclear Technology, and later held key positions such as Commander of the Chinese Nuclear Test Base, Deputy Minister of the General Equipment Department, Director of the General Equipment Department Science and Technology Commission, and Director of the Central Military Commission Science and Technology Commission, with the military rank of Major General.

In 2009, Liu Guozhi was elected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and served as a delegate to the 17th, 18th, and 19th National Congress of the Chinese Communist Party and the 19th Central Committee.

According to a report by “Epoch Times” on March 14, 2016, when Chinese Communist Party leader Xi Jinping attended the annual meeting of the national two sessions, Major General Liu Guozhi, then Director of the Military Commission Science and Technology Commission, was the first representative to speak.

Subsequently, the official media of the Chinese Communist Party, Xinhua News Agency, released a photo of Xi Jinping shaking hands with Liu Guozhi alone. It is widely believed that this gesture shows Liu Guozhi’s importance to Xi Jinping.

Since March 2025, in addition to Liu Guozhi, the personal information of several academicians has been successively removed from the official website of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, but no official explanation has been provided regarding the specific situations of these individuals.

Liu Guozhi is not an isolated case. When the Chinese Academy of Sciences website recently updated the “List of All Academicians,” the name and resume of Yang Wei, the chief designer of the J-20 fighter jet and former Deputy General Manager of the Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC), were also removed.

According to a previous report by Caixin, as early as January 18, 2025, the AVIC website removed the resumes of CEO Hao Zhaoping and Deputy CEO Yang Wei from the “Leadership Team” section.

Public records show that Yang Wei, born in May 1963 in Zizhong, Sichuan, is an aircraft design expert. He studied at the Northwestern Polytechnical University’s Aircraft Department for his bachelor’s and master’s degrees. He has been engaged in fighter jet design and research for a long time, serving as the chief designer of the J-20 series, J-10, and other aircraft models. Yang Wei has received numerous honors, including the National Science and Technology Progress Special Award, and was a member of the 19th Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party.
