From Small Office to Transcontinental Enterprise: Jixing Technology Sows Seeds of Goodness

From a small office in Los Angeles in 1985 to now having over two hundred employees and businesses spanning across North America and Asia, GST has firmly established its position in the US technology industry, setting an example of entrepreneurship for Taiwanese immigrants. Founders Alice and JP Wang have been working together for over forty years, with a core value of “being kind to people,” not only gaining a foothold in the mainstream market but also establishing a foundation to give back to society, making goodwill a protective moat for the company’s growth.

Alice and JP Wang have been recognized with awards such as Outstanding Young Overseas Entrepreneurs and Rock awards. Their office corridor displays photos with former Presidents of the Republic of China Taiwan, Lee Teng-hui (1993) and Tsai Ing-wen (2023), capturing Wang’s smile, which is not ostentatious but full of resilience and determination.

Born into a Taiwanese farming family, JP Wang pursued a Master’s degree in the United States after college, majoring in electronics and circuit engineering. With their professional background, he and his wife Alice started their entrepreneurial journey together. Despite lacking capital and connections, this young couple diligently visited clients, and with an emphasis on detail and integrity, gradually penetrated the predominantly white-dominated mainstream tech market.

“In unfamiliar markets, ‘trust’ is needed beyond abilities,” JP Wang said. In the early days of their business, securing orders from large enterprises was often challenging, but GST gained customer approval by being honest, transparent, and professional. Clients who were initially difficult to cooperate with later voluntarily introduced partners, allowing the company to venture into new technological fields.

As GST grew, it transitioned from being a technology supplier to a strategic partner for clients. JP Wang emphasized that while integrity can bring business, “long-term goodwill and enthusiasm for service can make clients willing to take us to a bigger stage together.”

Currently, the company has been handed over to the second-generation leadership, with eldest son Peter Wang serving as the CEO and second son David Wang as the COO. Clients include the US federal and state governments, higher education institutions, the aerospace industry, and small and medium-sized enterprises. GST has also obtained ISO-9001 certification, expanded the team through standardized processes, established a 24-hour backend operation center in Taiwan, allowing the US team to focus on customer relationships and value creation.

Regarding corporate governance, Alice Wang emphasized that “employees are not tools but the most important family members.” The company fosters a friendly working environment, with an average employee tenure of seven years and multiple selections as “Best Workplace in the United States.” She recalled receiving a thank you letter from a retiring partner, mentioning the respect and goodwill felt over the years of cooperation. That letter made Alice Wang deeply understand that “small acts of kindness can go a long way.”

After stabilizing their business, the Wang couple began to contemplate how to give back to society, establishing the “Alice and JP Wang Foundation,” providing scholarships ranging from $200,000 to $250,000 annually to assist about one hundred community college students, including first-generation college students, students from single-parent families, and female students in technology and business fields. In addition to providing laptops, the foundation also assists students in smoothly transferring to prestigious universities such as UCLA, UCSD, and Cal Poly, changing lives through education.

Furthermore, the couple has been dedicated to promoting Taiwanese-American cultural and academic exchanges, facilitating the signing of a memorandum of cooperation between Ocean University and the University of Hawaii in 2023, opening up deeper international collaboration.
