Recently, there have been reports from netizens that children have found foreign objects in Want Want milk, sparking online attention. Shandong Want Want Food Co., Ltd. personnel have taken samples of the foreign objects and preliminarily determined that they are not from a mouse.
On November 20, Mr. Peng posted a video stating that foreign objects were found in Want Want milk. The video shows the can of Want Want milk being cut open with a knife, revealing an “irregular black object” at the bottom of the can. The caption of the video stated, “The child took a sip and said it tasted weird, pouring it out revealed something disgusting.” Commenters speculated based on the images that the foreign object was a mouse.
According to Jinri News, in the video posted by Mr. Peng, a can with a pull ring lid was cut open. During the cutting process, the can was briefly out of sight. Finally, the camera focused on the opened can, showing an abnormal substance at the bottom. The production date on the can was “D2024.” The letter code D refers to Shandong Want Want Food Co., Ltd., located in Jibei Economic Development Zone, Ji’nan City, Shandong Province.
On the evening of the 22nd, Mr. Peng posted an update stating that the manufacturer offered a compensation plan of tenfold and took away the foreign object, awaiting test results on its composition.
As reported by Red Star News, Mr. Peng stated that he did not fabricate the incident, and when he opened the can, it was a normal process. He swore to the reporters that he did not insert the object and did not lie.
In the early hours of November 23, Shandong Want Want Food Co., Ltd. issued a statement declaring a comprehensive inspection of the production line, stating that there were no abnormalities.
According to Xiaoxiang Morning Post, on the 23rd, Mr. Peng reiterated on social media that he never claimed the foreign object was a mouse, only that it was an unidentified object. Most of the object has been handed over to the manufacturer for testing, keeping a portion for himself. The video is no longer available on his account, and was briefly set to private on the afternoon of the 23rd.
Personnel from Shandong Want Want Food Co., Ltd. informed Jinri News on the 23rd that the foreign object had been sampled for testing, preliminarily determining that it was not a mouse. However, the examination will take time, and the relevant results and situation updates will be made public.
This incident has sparked widespread attention online, even trending as the top search on Weibo for a period of time.
Comments from netizens include, “Honestly, these incidents are really nauseating. Do we need to cut open canned drinks before consuming them? A while back, a similar situation also occurred with a certain brand of boxed milk products. It seems now it’s better to stick to transparent plastic bagged milk.”
“There have been cases of foreign objects found in drinks before, but they were not widely publicized due to lack of attention.”
“I once drank from bottled milk without realizing there was a fly at the bottom. The water and bottle color were not white. I didn’t see it at first, only noticing it at the bottom after drinking it.”
“Quickly release the test results, otherwise, everyone will be worried.”
“This looks really scary, let’s hope for a swift investigation and clarification.”
However, some netizens have raised questions. An article by “xingyuhannan” analyzed: “A blogger raised the issue of #ForeignObjectsFoundInWantWantMilk#, specifically pinpointing the video he posted. From the video, it’s evident that this blogger is very conscious of preserving evidence, starting to film from when he opens the can. However, I am puzzled by one thing: why would a person so conscious of preserving evidence, at the crucial moment of opening the can, inexplicably move the camera away with a cough as an excuse, then move it back to reveal the foreign object in the can? Why did this occur?”
Public information shows that Want Want Group was established in 1962, formerly known as Yilan Food Industry Co., Ltd., engaged in canned food processing and export. Want Want brand was founded in 1983. In 2008, China Want Want Holdings Co., Ltd. was listed on the main board of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange.
