The White House spokesperson, Karoline Leavitt, announced that President Trump has reviewed the surveillance video released by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) on Tuesday, February 10th. Upon viewing the footage related to the suspect in the kidnapping case involving the mother of NBC host Savannah Guthrie, he expressed feeling “extremely disgusted.”
Leavitt stated during a White House press briefing on Tuesday, “I was with the President once again, and both he and I reviewed the FBI’s newly released surveillance video regarding the heartbreaking situation involving Savannah Guthrie’s mother.”
“The President encourages any American who has information about the suspect to contact the FBI, as the agency continues to assist the state and local authorities leading the investigation on the ground,” she continued, emphasizing that the White House is praying for the Guthrie family and hoping that law enforcement will swiftly locate the suspect and safely bring Savannah’s mother home.
Since Nancy Guthrie, the mother of NBC host Savannah Guthrie, was kidnapped on the night of January 31st, the FBI has been actively collaborating with the Pima County authorities in Arizona to seek clues regarding the disappearance of the 84-year-old woman.
Just minutes before the routine White House press briefing on Tuesday, the FBI released surveillance footage showing a masked individual seemingly tampering with a camera at Guthrie’s home in the northern part of Tucson.
The surveillance video depicted a person wearing long-sleeved pants, carrying a backpack, approaching the front door of Guthrie’s residence. The footage captured the suspect attempting to cover the camera near the front door with gloved hands before placing a plant in front of the camera.
The video footage suggested that the suspect was carrying a handgun.
Leavitt also discussed President Trump’s reaction upon seeing the surveillance footage during the press briefing. She told reporters, “Certainly, like all Americans, his initial reaction was simply one of extreme disgust.”
Regarding whether Trump believes the person in the surveillance video was acting alone, Leavitt mentioned that she had not specifically discussed this with the President.
